UAE Launches Residency Renewal from Home

The UAE now allows residents to complete their mandatory medical fitness test for visa renewal from home, with a qualified medical team visiting at a scheduled time.

Visas

The EHS (Emirates Health Services) has introduced a service that allows residents in the UAE to complete the mandatory medical fitness screening required for residency visa renewal without visiting a medical centre. The initiative, called Residency Renewal from Home, sends a specialised medical team from the Wiqayati preventive health centres directly to the applicant’s home at a scheduled time.

This removes one of the more time-consuming steps in the visa renewal process, particularly for business owners and professionals who find it difficult to take time away from work for clinic visits, or for those who face mobility challenges.

How It Works

Once an appointment is arranged through the relevant official channels, a qualified medical team visits the applicant’s residence and carries out the full medical examination required under the UAE’s approved health procedures and standards. Results are then sent directly to the applicant by text message or email, allowing them to continue the residency renewal process through official channels without the need for in-person follow-up.

Currently, the service is available for residency renewal applications only. It does not yet apply to new visa applications or other visa categories.

Why This Matters for Businesses

For companies with teams of employees on UAE residence visas, managing the renewal cycle is an ongoing administrative responsibility. Each renewal requires coordinating medical appointments, collecting results, and submitting the required documents to the GDRFA (General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs) or the relevant authority. The more staff a company has, the more complex this process becomes.

This new service reduces the time burden on both employees and the HR or administrative function responsible for managing the process.

Part of a Broader Digital Shift

The home screening initiative is consistent with the UAE’s ongoing commitment to digitising government services and reducing in-person requirements. The country has been steadily moving towards remote and digital delivery of public services across multiple areas, from business licensing to tax filing. The integration of health screening results with the official residency renewal process reflects that same direction.

For businesses already using professional service providers to manage their employees’ visa renewals, this change should mean a more streamlined process with fewer delays. For those managing renewals in-house, it is worth updating internal procedures to take advantage of the new option.
