The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has announced that free zone companies can now conduct more business activities on the mainland through branch offices. This addresses a previous limitation where procedural restrictions often prevented free zone entities from obtaining branch licenses for many activities.

While the UAE tax rules already permitted free zone companies to have mainland branches, the licensing authorities were often restrictive in practice. The new rule effectively removes these barriers, making it easier for free zone businesses to expand their mainland presence.

In cases where businesses require additional time to adjust their operations, the DET Director-General has the authority to extend this transition period by an additional year if deemed necessary.
